The Power of Story: What My Conversation with Mike Bosworth Taught Me About Selling, Connecting, and Being Human

There are certain conversations that stay with you long after the microphone is turned off. My conversation with Mike Bosworth will stay with me for the rest of my life.

This episode was especially meaningful to me on a very personal level because Mike is not just someone I admire professionally. He has been my mentor and friend for more than 20 years.

Long before Wynn’s Kitchen existed, before I had ever built a consumer brand, and before I fully understood that entrepreneurship would become such an important part of my life, Mike was one of the people who helped ignite that entrepreneurial spirit in me.

Over the years, I have learned so much from him—not only about sales and business, but about people, relationships, confidence, and the importance of being willing to take a chance on an idea.

There is something incredibly full-circle about sitting across from someone who influenced the way you think about business decades ago and then getting to interview him on a podcast you created as an entrepreneur yourself.

For me, this wasn’t simply an interview with an accomplished author and sales leader. It was a conversation with someone who has been part of my own journey.

And that made this episode incredibly special.

Mike is the creator of Solution Selling, a longtime sales leader, and the author and co-author of several influential books on selling. But what struck me most during our conversation wasn’t a sales technique or a formula.

It was something much more human:

People don’t want to feel sold to. They want to feel understood.

That idea resonated deeply with me because so much of entrepreneurship comes down to connection.

When I started Wynn’s Kitchen, I didn’t come from a traditional food background. I had a product I believed in, a story behind why I created it, and a determination to get it into the hands of people who would love it as much as I did.

And in many ways, the courage to even believe I could build something of my own traces back to people like Mike who encouraged me to think bigger, trust my instincts, and see possibility where I might not have seen it before.

Twenty years later, getting to sit down with him and talk about storytelling, selling, connection, and entrepreneurship felt like one of those beautiful full-circle moments.

And perhaps that is why this conversation stayed with me so much.

Because while we were talking about sales, I found myself thinking about something much bigger:

The stories we tell shape the opportunities we create—and sometimes, the people who believe in us early on help us find the courage to write an entirely new story for ourselves.

As I reflect on this episode, I feel an enormous amount of gratitude. Mike has been a mentor and friend for two decades, and his influence on my entrepreneurial journey began long before Wynn’s Kitchen was even an idea. Having him as a guest on my own podcast felt incredibly full-circle. Sometimes we don’t realize how much one person’s encouragement, perspective, or belief can shape the direction of our lives until years later. Mike was one of those people for me, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to share this conversation.

Sometimes the most important story isn’t the one you tell a customer—it’s the one someone helps you believe about yourself.
