THE FIRST OFFICIAL BATCH
August 30, 2019 is the date that the photo was taken.
I picked up my first official batch from my first co packer. This was a “pinch me” moment for me!
I get asked a lot. “How did you do it? How did you know what to do or where to start? How did you know how to get into stores and Amazon?”
The real answer is I didn’t know how. When I first made it in my kitchen to save myself from boring meals during my journey doing Whole30, I never thought I could turn it into a legitimate business.
BUT I was curious. How do people start a food product company and get it on the shelves? Looking back, I think that CURIOSITY is one of my biggest strengths in all my endeavors.
I gave away jars and had people sample the sauce, the more I talked about it, the more people would tell me they knew someone that is in the food business and got me the introduction. I would call or email and see if they are willing to talk to me. I pretty much talked to anyone that would talk to me. 😂
I spent hours trying to read the guidelines, called commercial kitchens, try to find Information online, figure insurance.
I learned all about hot packing, PH Level, certifications, Label guidelines, how to get a UPC code, how to price for different channels just to start.
It took me 3 years of researching whenever I can to find a copacker to help me launch the first product. After, I walked Into a local grocery store, asked for the buyer and pitched it to him right in the aisle, I didn’t really know the process to get into stores.
I’m still learning as I go and finding ways to figure things out. It is a process and a long journey.
But I truly believe the key 🔑 in starting a business, or thinking about starting a business is to GET CURIOUS! Then after, you have to do the work to find the answers, and just get started!
